DIA2000SE on Windows 10 and 11 Known issues and what you can do
DIA2000SE was built for older Windows versions and works with older Microsoft SQL Server releases, in some cases up to version 2008. On current systems this leads to errors that cannot be reliably predicted. This page covers the three typical failure patterns, a quick fix and the permanent way out.

Does this sound familiar?
The three typical failure patterns
The errors do not show up the same way everywhere. That is exactly what makes them so hard to manage in daily lab work.
Installation fails
On newer Windows machines DIA2000SE sometimes cannot be installed at all. With a lot of trial and error it occasionally works. There is no guarantee it will work again on the next machine.
Unexplained behaviour
The software starts but does not run reliably. Errors appear without a fixed pattern, so they cannot be fixed in a targeted way.
No database after a Windows update
A Windows update can break the communication between DIA2000SE and the old SQL Server. Someone then has to find the update that caused it and uninstall it before the lab can continue.
Quick fix for pattern 03
Roll back a Windows update
How to remove an update on Windows 11 after which DIA2000SE can no longer reach its database. The menu paths follow Microsoft's instructions.
- 1
Open update history
Start → Settings → Windows Update, then under “More options” select Update history.
- 2
Find the update
Under “Related settings” select Uninstall updates. Compare the installation date with the day the error first appeared.
- 3
Uninstall
Select the update, choose Uninstall and follow the prompts from Windows.
- 4
Check the connection
Start DIA2000SE and check whether the database connection works again. Coordinate this step with your IT team.
Why this is not a permanent fix
Every new update can trigger it again
Only lasts until the next update
A rolled-back update only helps until the next one. Windows installs new updates regularly, and each of them can hit the old combination again.
Security gaps stay open
Holding back updates permanently means going without security updates on the lab PC. SQL Server 2008 itself no longer receives regular updates either: Microsoft ended extended support in July 2019 (Microsoft Lifecycle).
No manufacturer support
DIA2000SE itself is no longer developed or supported by its manufacturer. Errors in the software will therefore not be fixed.
The permanent way out
[FP]-LIMS: the successor from the same team
We have developed the [DIA] software since 1992 and built [FP]-LIMS as its direct successor. [FP]-LIMS runs on Windows 11, takes over your existing [DIA] data and keeps your spectrometers connected.

A short conversation. We listen to how your setup looks and show you the path to [FP]-LIMS.
- 2
Tailored quote
A transparent quote. [FP]-LIMS Light is often enough, from €3,500.

Short training
Key users get a short, practical introduction. Most labs are productive within a few days.
Frequently asked questions
DIA2000SE on current Windows
Can I run DIA2000SE safely on Windows 11?
There is no reliable guarantee. Some installations run, others do not, and a Windows update can end a working state again.
Is DIA2000SE still supported?
No. Development and manufacturer support for DIA2000, DIA2000SE, [DIA] Basic and [DIA] Light have ended. The supported successor from Fink & Partner is [FP]-LIMS.
Will I lose my data when switching?
No. We take over your existing [DIA] data with analyses, samples, methods and history as part of the [FP]-LIMS installation.
Does my spectrometer work with [FP]-LIMS?
Yes. We connect SpectroLAB, SpectroMAXx, SpectroPort and Bruker Magellan to [FP]-LIMS. Your hardware stays in use.
I bought a used spectrometer with DIA2000SE. What now?
The same applies to you: DIA2000SE was not built for current Windows. Talk to us, we will check your setup and show you how to keep using the instrument with [FP]-LIMS.
